THE TIMES THEY ARE A-CHANGING...

FAN GRRRL IS NOW 12 YEARS OLD!

I'm a proud shop mama, but the time has come for me to 'get a proper job'. At the start of the pandemic, I was unsure how things were going to effect the shop. I had just moved house and my expenses were a lot higher and like everyone else, the panic was setting in.

Initially (thanks to Tiger King!) the shop was really busy. Everyone was bored, sitting at home, online shopping, thinking that this 'bad flu' would soon pass. As time got on, and the seriousness of it sunk in, sales decreased and I had to really figure out what my back-up plan was going to be. I had done this for TEN YEARS and didn't really know anything else.

Thanks to a reddit post, I came across Code Clan, a Software Development bootcamp based in Edinburgh and Glasgow. I had been looking at Marketing, Fashion and E-commerce jobs online and there was NOTHING. Loads of jobs for developers though! I doubted my Myspace html experience would get me a job, so I took the plunge and signed up for the bootcamp.

OMG IT WAS SO FUCKING HARD.

I had next to know coding experience and it was fast-paced and intensive. But by the end of the 20 weeks, I was loving it, had made new friends and had created two proper all singing, all dancing apps, along with lots of mini projects.

Fast forward 6 months, after several interviews and a lot more coding practise, I got a job! Woohoo!

So what does this mean for FAN GRRRL? To be honest, I'm not very sure. I'd considered selling the business, passing it over to a friend to run, and just closing it up completely. But it's my babyyyyyy and I'm a control freak. So for now, I am keeping it going as a side hustle.

How will this effect you, my lovely customers? Emails will be responded to, and orders will be packaged in the evenings and weekends and will be collected as usual on Tuesdays and Thursdays by my lovely postie. Next Day Delivery will be discontinued, unfortunately. You probably won't notice a huge difference, but just wanted to make you all aware that I won't be available during normal working hours.

Anyway, wish me luck in my new job as the OLDEST. JUNIOR DEVELOPER. EVER.
